Mine-Ontake Shrine

嶺御嶽神社
The founding of the Mitake Shrine is said to have been around the 4th year of Tenmon (1535), when the village of Mine (present-day Minemachi District) was established. At that time, it was a small shrine and it is presumed that it was close to a shrine, but the number of believers increased dramatically after the arrival of Ichizan Gyojin, who had trained at Mt. Kiso Ontake in the later Tenpo year (late Edo period), and in the second year of Tenpo (1831), the current large shrine was built and the spirit was relocated. Among the believers, there were many wealthy merchants from Edo, and it seems that a considerable amount of donations were made. A large number of believers who worship Mt. Kiso Ontake from all over the Kanto region visited, and the momentum continued to Edo, Meiji, Taisho, and Showa. It seems that it was said, "If you visit the Mitake Shrine three times, it is the same as if you went to Mt. Kiso Ontake once." After World War II, the overall number of believers on Mt. Kiso Ontake has been declining, but even now, Kosha and Kosha come to worship regularly as a group. On the other hand, since there are six clan districts and worship associations are organized, the festival is becoming more and more grand every year with great support from the local clans. In addition, once every 20 years, a ceremonial annual festival is held in which the mikoshi is carried to the main mountain (August 23 is the second time). At the back of the shrine precincts, there is a forest of shrines named "Spirit God Forest", which is a sacred area along with the Spirit God Monument. The planting of the forest was supervised by Professor Akira Miyawaki, Professor Emeritus of Yokohama National University. The main shrine, which sits in the center, is a cultural asset of Ota Ward, and the sculptures on the walls are particularly impressive. In addition, a 400-year-old black pine tree is revered as a "marital pine". Various other sights are scattered around the precincts, creating a tranquil space that does not seem to be in a shopping street.
