Musashi Mitake Shrine

武蔵御嶽神社
Musashi Mitake Shrine is a shrine located in Ome City, Tokyo (formerly Tama District, Musashi Province). It sits on the top of Mt. Musashi Mitake. Mitake and Mitake refer to Mt. Kinmine in the Yoshino region (Nara Prefecture), which is the center of Shugendo. It enshrines Zao Gongen, Kushi, and others, and has developed since the Middle Ages as a sacred place of mountain worship, and has acquired a sphere of worship that spans Musashi and Sagami. There is a theory that it is the Shikinai Shrine (see "List of Shikinai Shrines in Musashi Country"), and it is a former Fusha. Currently, it is a single shrine that does not belong to the main office of the shrine. Since the shrine also enshrines the god Oguchi, the number of worshippers with dogs has been increasing in recent years for prayers, and the Mitake Tozan Railway allows dogs to ride without using cages.
